EXEMPLARS

I always use evidence-based practice to make a decision in terms of patient care, and I feel that this is my strength in this area. I have room to grow in developing new policies or procedures that can change and impact patient care in a positive way, and this is a goal I hope to achieve in the next several years.

This disease paper discussed patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. I met this essential by discussing how patients with this disease are currently treated as well as typical screening and treatment progression from initial presentation to end-stage disease.

I chose to discuss Gate-control theory as my middle range theory paper. This theory discusses pain transmission primarily as well as current alternative treatment options. This essential was met with this topic as opioid addiction is a current real problem and I would like to utilize alternative treatment options for patients who experience chronic pain. This allows me to change current practice and resolve the current problem of using opioids to treat pain without exhausting all other options.

This paper discussed Kawasaki disease and how the disease is diagnosed. This essential was met through discussing the typical patient presentation, how long term management can impact the patient lifelong, as well as current treatment, concerns the primary care provider needs to be aware of.

This disease paper discussed Marfan Syndrome and how to patient is impacted by this disease. I met this essential through discussing current research that involves the treatment of patients with this disease, how a multiple disciplinary approach is necessary to care for the patient, and how current treatment has changed over time.
